In Memoriam: Robert Lee Morgan

Robert (Bob) Lee Morgan was the first African American FAIA in Minnesota. He was a friend, mentor but most importantly servant leader. He was a very kind man and generous with his time to always help others at our church and in the community. At the time, Robert was one of the graders for the infamous 12 hour design test.

Alicia Belton remembers the day she was elevated to the College of Fellows. Robert’s response was “I am so proud of you and how you are contributing to the profession. I am especially proud that you have been elevated to fellowship in the AIA. I knew that you could do it and I knew that you would do it. Keep up the good work. I can now sew the buttons back on my shirt that I popped when I read the email.”

Alicia says, “You never know what it means to pout into someone’s life. I won’t ever forget his kindness and the example he set as a faith filled community leader and exemplary architect that selflessly served others. Bob, thank you for sharing your light.”
